PromptScrub is a safeguard, not a guarantee

This tool reduces the chance of pasting something sensitive into an AI chat by accident. It does not eliminate that chance, and it is not a substitute for reading your own text before you send it.

Detection works by matching patterns. A pattern can describe what an AWS access key looks like. No pattern can describe what your organisation treats as confidential. PromptScrub will not detect client names, internal project names, unreleased financial figures, strategic plans, health information, or anything else whose sensitivity comes from context rather than format.

It may also miss things that do have a format, if that format is new, unusual, or belongs to a service we have not written a rule for.

When an article discusses a provider's current practices or a published incident, we link to the primary source in the article. We aim to be accurate, but circumstances change, vendors update their terms, and errors are possible. Verify anything you intend to act on against the linked source.
